I have been involved with Yoga most of my life and have helped to build yoga programs in many places. I have taught and studied many different styles.
Class Schedule and Payment
Initially I am offering a few “taught” classes and weekend workshops designed for beginners and intermediates. Once I have a core group ready for a “guided" class and eventually a “master" class I will add them onto the schedule.
Yoga is a great way to begin or continue your commitment to excellence and vitality in life. Finding the right yoga teacher and yoga style is like finding a community filled with best friends. When it is accomplished it will add value to your whole life.
What is a taught class? It is a class where poses are learned in a slow, supported manner and the teacher assists in the process. Props and partner work are an integral part of this as proper alignment is critical. Basic breath work (prana yama) will also be taught. This class will draw from Kripalu, Shivananda, and Iyengar styles. This class is for the beginner and intermediate student…or for the advanced student that wants to perfect the basics.
What is a guided class? It is a class where individual poses begin to be incorporated into flowing sequences. Part of this class will be teacher assisted and part of it will be the student following the teacher moving through flow forms. More advanced breath work (prana yama) and beginning mediation will be taught. This class will draw from Kripalu, Iyengar, and Ashtanga styles. This class is for intermediate to advanced students and requires teacher approval.
What is a master class? It is an invitation only class. It will be predominately, student followed, flow forms at a rapid pace, combined with long hold advanced individual poses. Full prana yama will be used and practice will begin and end with meditation. This class will draw from Iyengar and Ashtanga styles. Often the class room will be quite warm. This class is for intermediate to advanced students.
Yoga is a soft form of exercise. It focuses on combining strength, flexibility, motion and breath to create greater physical, emotional and spiritual vitality.
There are many forms of yoga. Hatha Yoga is the name given to the branch of yoga that focuses on physical fitness as an avenue to balance. Within Hatha Yoga there are many styles:
Kripalu: A gentle style that lends itself to beginners and those with special needs like pregnant mothers and seniors. However, it does offer the intermediate and advanced student a slow and gentle flow to work on postures at peace.
Vin: A gentle style that is designed to be taught one-on-one. It lends itself to helping the individual heal injuries and correct serious dysfunctions.
Shivananda: A moderate style that has progressive classes for students of all levels. It focuses on relaxation, meditation and chanting as a way into full yoga postures.
Iyengar: A moderate to challenging style that has progressive classes for students of all levels. It focuses on using the breath and a variety of props to find individual perfection in each pose. Flow is not taught until there is some mastery of the individual poses.
Ashtanga: Also known as “power yoga” is a challenging style that is designed only for intermediate to advanced students that already have personal understanding of their own bodies, along with good levels of mastery on most poses, including inversions. This is a full flow form and promotes cardiovascular fitness along with flexibility and strength.
Bikram: Also known as “hot yoga” is similar to Ashtanga, but done in a 104 degree room.
